Turkiye unveils legal framework for Kurdistan Workers Party peace process

Istanbul [Turkiye], August 6: Turkiye's government on Wednesday submitted to parliament a bill that would suspend certain prosecutions and prison sentences for members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) as part of a peace initiative, according to a document seen by DPA and state news agency Anadolu.
The proposal does not include any previously discussed provision for the release or a special legal status for jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, whose freedom had been a key PKK demand. The draft law would take effect only after authorities verify that the PKK and affiliated groups have dissolved and surrendered their weapons (DPA)
