Islamabad [Pakiastan], February 26: A suicide bombing took place on Saturday outside a bank branch in Faizabad city, the provincial capital of Afghanistan's Badakhshan province.
The suicide bomber was targeted before he could reach the crowd gathered at the bank, the provincial director of the Information and Culture Department, Muezuddin Ahmadi, said.
"Except for the assailant, no one was seriously injured," Ahmadi added.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. In December, a key Taliban security official for the province was killed alongside two of his bodyguards in a car bombing claimed by the Islamic State group.
Following the Taliban's return to power in August 2021, Islamic State has intensified its attacks in Afghanistan, mainly targeting religious minorities, Taliban members as well as foreign diplomatic centres.
Afghanistan has become isolated from the West due to the Taliban's draconian policies against women, their disregard for human rights and their refusal to form a representative government. (dpa)
