Islamabad [Pakistan], May 20: A soldier was killed in an explosion near a military convoy in South Waziristan district of Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, an army statement said on Thursday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani army, said that security forces came under attack in the Makeen area of the district when an improvised explosive device exploded and killed the soldier.
"Area clearance is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists in the area," the ISPR statement said.
Separately, a terrorist was killed during an exchange of fire with security forces in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan district of KP province, the ISPR said on Thursday.
