Hanoi [Vietnam], February 28: Ngoc Son recently shared his thoughts about his profession and revealed a special family heirloom that his parents have carefully preserved for decades.
Unlike glittering mementos, Ngoc Son revealed that his most prized possessions are his autograph book and a collection of newspaper articles preserved by his parents for many years. According to the artist, these newspaper pages, though stained with time, are still cherished as a testament to his artistic journey. These articles document Ngoc Son's creative path, from bolero , folk music, and cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) to his groundbreaking experiments.
Ngoc Son shared that his parents quietly collected and preserved each newspaper article as a way of following and being proud of their son. For him, these were not just documents, but proof of family love and trust - something that formed a solid foundation for his entire career.
As an artist, Ngoc Son looks back on his journey with gratitude. For him, his father's autograph book not only records his glorious years but also reminds him of his responsibility to uphold kindness and filial piety.
Ngoc Son has repeatedly mentioned the two "key elements" of his life: the love of his parents and the affection of his "extended family" of fans. It is from this source of emotion that he has composed a series of songs about his parents - songs so deeply ingrained in him that he "had to put down his pen after writing them for fear of crying."
"When I perform, I witness so much love and affection from everyone that I get teary-eyed. I'm very gentle and don't know how to fight against anything. I approach people respectfully, as a son of a loving extended family," he confided.
Singer Ngoc Son's aspirations
Throughout his career, Ngoc Son has affectionately referred to his audience as "his extended family," a term that has become his signature over the years. For the male artist, each time he steps onto the stage, it's not about performing, but about returning to the embrace of loved ones.
Beyond personal feelings, Ngoc Son revealed that he is planning to create a medley of 15 songs about parents as an artistic mission. For the male artist, filial piety is not only a moral principle but also the most enduring element in his music. Looking back on his more than half-century career, the singer of " The Last Night" doesn't dwell much on achievements or titles. What makes him most proud is the affection of his audience, because that is the "medicine" that helps him overcome temptations and maintain his perseverance in art.
Besides songs about family, Ngoc Son also shared his feelings about love songs written from his own experiences of love, hurt, and healing through music. In particular, at the program, he revealed a new song with the sounds of his homeland in the Mekong Delta - a place filled with childhood memories, images of his hardworking mother, and vast rice fields. The song is expected to continue the humanistic emotional thread that has been Ngoc Son's strength throughout his decades in the arts.
