Bangkok [Thailand], March 31: Min Aung Hlaing, the head of Myanmar's military who led the 2021 coup, stepped down from his military position on Monday to pursue the presidency through a parliamentary vote.
The official announcement of stepping down from the army position was read on state-owned MRTV news. His loyal right-hand man Ye Win Oo, 60, was appointed as new chief of the military. This development follows the first elections held in the South-East Asian country since the coup that sparked a nationwide civil conflict. (DPA)
