Abuja [Nigeria], April 27: At least six local miners were killed in a late-night attack by gunmen in Nigeria's central Plateau State, an official said Wednesday.
The gunmen, who fled immediately after the attack, wreaked havoc in the Turu community of the Jos South local government area of Plateau on Tuesday night, DachungBagos, a federal legislator representing the state, told reporters in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
The attack occurred at a mining spot in Turu, and the armed attackers shot indiscriminately in the location of the miners, Bagos said, adding that the motive of the attackers was unknown.
Armed attacks have been a primary security threat in Nigeria's northern and central regions, leading to deaths and kidnappings in recent months.
