Kabul [Afghanistan], July 30: A handover ceremony of earthquake relief donated by a Chinese firm has been held in the Afghan capital Kabul.
Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu, Sheikh ShahabuddinDelawar, acting minister of mines and petroleum of Afghanistan's Taliban-led caretaker government and MawlawiSharafuddin Muslim, deputy minister of state for disaster management and humanitarian affairs, attended the ceremony.
At the ceremony, Wang said the Chinese government immediately announced emergency humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, and the MCC-JCL Aynak Minerals Company Ltd. (MJAM) has also donated materials to help Afghan disaster victims since the earthquake occured.
Wang said as a good neighbor, brother and partner, China attached great importance to the difficulties of Afghanistan and was willing to try its best to extend a helping hand to the Afghan people in difficulties.
China sincerely helped Afghanistan achieve independent development and would continue to help Afghanistan in dealing with the disaster, and continue to provide support to the Afghan people in the areas of food, medical care, disaster relief training, the ambassador said.
Delawar expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government and the Chinese firm for their rapid response and generous assistance to Afghanistan during the difficult times.
Muslim thanked China for providing relief supplies immediately after the deadly earthquake happened in Afghanistan.
Wu Min, deputy general manager of MJAM, handed over aid supplies to the Afghan side at the ceremony.
A destructive earthquake rattled Afghanistan on June 22, killing more than 1,000 people and destroying more than 17,000 houses.
